Do you need an OET course or writing feedback?

A practical guide to choosing free practice, targeted letter correction or a full preparation course.

A course teaches a planned sequence; writing feedback responds to work you have already produced. Choose the one that matches the problem in your latest practice.

First establish whether there is a preparation problem

A missing document, unclear acceptance rule or inaccessible result-verification permission is not automatically a language-learning problem. Start with the NMC evidence routes when that is your target.

Do not buy preparation because someone applies the wrong threshold to your existing result. Equally, do not treat a score estimate from a practice tool as proof that you have satisfied a registration rule.

Match the support to the obstacle

What happens when you attempt an unfamiliar task? What you need to investigate first
You do not understand the instructions or expected responseTask explanation and guided examples
You understand the task but cannot decide what information belongsWorked reasoning about selection and organization
You can complete an attempt but cannot see why it is weakIndividual feedback on that attempt
You receive comments but cannot apply themClarification, guided revision or a tutorial
Several skills are weak and your study has no structureA broader curriculum and realistic schedule
You have sufficient evidence but cannot submit itAdministrative requirements, not another course

These observations are a starting brief. They do not establish how many sessions you need or whether you will achieve a target by a particular date.

Use a small diagnostic purchase only when it answers a question

A single correction can be useful when you have written an honest, unaided attempt and want to understand its main problems. Define the desired output before buying: comments tied to your text, an explanation of the priority problem and a follow-up exercise.

It is less useful when you have submitted a heavily polished AI rewrite. The response then describes that rewritten document rather than the writing you could produce independently.

It is also less useful when you collect score estimates without revising anything. The paid output has not entered a learning cycle.

An example of a useful sequence

Imagine a candidate who can explain the intended reader and purpose but repeatedly includes irrelevant background. The candidate writes one unfamiliar task, purchases or receives targeted feedback, marks every deletion with a reason, and writes a new task using those reasons. A later correction then checks whether the same selection problem persists.

This is an illustrative workflow, not an experimentally validated prescription. Its advantage is that every payment has a stated question. “Did my selection improve on a different task?” is a more useful question than “Can someone give me a higher practice score?”

Now imagine someone who cannot finish a first attempt because the task itself is unfamiliar. Sending an incomplete draft for a score may be less useful than a clear explanation followed by guided practice.

When a course is the more coherent option

A course can make sense when the missing resource is an organized route through the material, especially when you need help across more than one area. Compare the curriculum and actual interaction rather than only the access period.

Commercial products do not all include the same individual support. The course comparison shows why one package cannot be assumed to include the assessments advertised elsewhere on the same site. E2

When feedback is the more coherent option

Targeted feedback can make sense when you already know what to attempt, can schedule revision, and have a particular uncertainty about your own work. Compare the current service offers by the delivered output, not solely the count of letters.

A smaller pack may be preferable to a bulk commitment while you learn whether the explanation is usable for you. This is a risk-management choice, not a claim that a smaller purchase always produces better learning.

The no-purchase option

Continue with material you already have when it supplies the explanation and practice you need. Reserve payment for a clearly missing service. Keep a short error log and try a new task before deciding that another subscription is necessary.
